How the IPv6 Test Works

Our IPv6 test checks whether your internet connection has a working IPv6 connection in addition to IPv4. The test is performed by simultaneous connection attempts over both protocol versions. You will learn your IPv4 and IPv6 address and whether you are using Dual-Stack. The test takes only a few seconds and requires no plugin.

Frequently Asked Questions about IPv6 Test

What is IPv6 and why is it needed?

IPv6 is the successor to the IPv4 protocol. While IPv4 offers only about 4.3 billion addresses, IPv6 enables a virtually unlimited number (340 sextillion). Since IPv4 addresses worldwide are exhausted, IPv6 is essential for the future of the internet.

What does Dual-Stack mean?

Dual-Stack means your internet connection supports both IPv4 and IPv6 simultaneously. This is the ideal configuration as you can reach both older and newer services. Most modern ISPs offer Dual-Stack by default.

Do I need to do anything to use IPv6?

In most cases, no. If your ISP supports IPv6, it is activated automatically. Your router and operating system must also support IPv6 – this is standard for current devices. Use our test to verify everything is working correctly.
